"Scameras" start ticketing in Lakeland

Red light cameras, also known as "scameras," started ticketing drivers in Lakeland on Monday.

For the first ticket per camera per day, the company that installed the cameras gets the entire fine of $125. The company gets $25 for the second and third tickets and $10 after that.

The City of Lakeland gets the rest.

Critics say these red light camera companies capitalize on tragedies in order to gain support for these cameras. Melissa Wandall, who lost her husband in a traffic crash, offered her take on 10 Connects News This Morning.
